COMPANY OVERVIEW
Beau Hamilton Builders (BHB) is a Whitianga-based building company serving the wider Coromandel region of New Zealand. Founded on the values of honesty, reliability, and fairness, the team delivers new builds, renovations, extensions, and outdoor living spaces designed for the coastal Coromandel lifestyle. BHB came to us for a website built entirely from scratch, one that matched the quality of their craftsmanship, carried their genuine local reputation, and gave homeowners a confident, obvious path to request a quote.
THE OBJECTIVE
The client arrived with a clear point of view. They shared two reference sites they admired, Outdoor Makeover and Patagonia Development — and asked us to design something in that spirit, but more innovative and distinctly their own. Beyond the look, the brief was practical: showcase the team's work, communicate their values, and turn local reputation into enquiries. The objectives were to:
To achieve this, the objectives were:
- Build a complete, responsive website from scratch with a premium, editorial feel
- Deliver the client's preferred direction - a bold black, white, and grey palette, large photography, and minimal clutter
- Structure the full site: Home, About, Services, Our Process, Projects, Gallery, Testimonials, FAQs, and Contact
- Give each service (New Builds, Renovations, Extensions, Decks & Outdoor Living) its own dedicated page
- Reinforce local, personal trust through the team, real projects, and genuine client testimonials
- Drive lead generation with prominent "Get a Free Quote" calls-to-action and a working enquiry form
- Ship a fast, SEO-friendly, mobile-first build on the client's custom domain

THE CHALLENGE
The real problem in this project wasn't the feature list, it was interpretation and iteration. The client admired two polished reference sites but explicitly didn't want a copy; the design had to feel familiar in quality yet original to BHB. Midway through, the direction evolved: the client moved away from a white background toward an all-black scheme with white and grey text for a bolder, more premium look, a shift we needed to absorb without losing momentum. There was also a discipline problem to solve. A builder's site can easily become a wall of services and photos. The client specifically wanted the service offerings pared back to a simple photo, heading, and a link into more detail, so the homepage had to feel considered, not crowded. On top of that sat the practical bar: a nine-section site with a services dropdown, load times under three seconds on mobile, an enquiry form wired to the business inbox, and custom domain configuration.
Upon conducting a deep audit, we discovered the core issue:
- Turning the client’s reference sites into an original design rather than simply copying their style.
- Adapting the design direction from a lighter look to a bold black, white, and grey aesthetic.
- Showcasing multiple building services without making the homepage feel crowded.
- Creating dedicated service pages to provide more detailed information about each offering.
- Building trust through the team, completed projects, testimonials, and local Coromandel presence.
- Explaining the building process clearly to reassure first-time homeowners.
- Creating a clear path for visitors to request a free quote and become potential leads.
- Balancing large, high-quality project imagery with website speed and performance.
- Creating a responsive experience that worked smoothly across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
- Building a complete website structure covering services, projects, gallery, FAQs, testimonials, and contact.
- Establishing a strong SEO-friendly foundation for local search visibility.
THE SOLUTION
We designed and built the site from scratch on WordPress, drawing on the client's references as a starting point rather than a template. The finished aesthetic leans into the bold black-and-grey direction the client landed on, with large photography carrying each section. To keep the homepage uncluttered, each service is introduced with just a photo, heading, and "Learn More" link that opens a dedicated page, exactly the restraint the client asked for. Around that, we built the sections that turn a first-time visitor into a lead: a "Meet the Team" introduction to Beau and the crew that anchors the brand's local, personal feel; a step-by-step "How We Work" journey (Consultation → Quote & Scope → Design & Planning → Build → Handover & Aftercare) that removes uncertainty for nervous first-time builders; and project, gallery, and testimonial sections that let the work and the clients speak for themselves. "Get a Free Quote" prompts recur at natural decision points, feeding a request-a-quote form connected straight to the business email. The whole build was optimised for speed, search, and responsiveness, then pointed at the custom domain.
Key actions included:
- Designed and developed a custom WordPress website from scratch with a premium, editorial-inspired visual direction.
- Created a bold black, white, and grey design system supported by large project photography.
- Built dedicated pages for New Builds, Renovations, Extensions, and Decks & Outdoor Living.
- Kept the homepage clean by introducing services through simple image, heading, and “Learn More” sections.
- Added a Meet the Team section to strengthen BHB’s personal and local brand identity.
- Created a five-step How We Work process from consultation through handover and aftercare.
- Added project and gallery sections to showcase the quality of BHB’s completed work.
- Integrated genuine client testimonials to strengthen credibility and social proof.
- Added prominent “Get a Free Quote” CTAs throughout key sections of the website.
- Built an enquiry form connected directly to the business email for lead generation.
- Added FAQs to answer common homeowner questions and reduce decision-making friction.
- Optimised imagery, layouts, and content to improve website speed and overall performance.
- Created fully responsive layouts for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
THE RESULT
BHB now has a website that looks like the calibre of homes they build.
